  • What are the benefits of concrete over other materials?

There are many benefits to using concrete for driveways, patios and other outdoor surfaces including the durability and affordability when compared to other materials. Concrete, when properly maintained, can last for decades without wearing down. Outdoor driveways and patios need to be properly sealed occasionally but can otherwise last for as long as your home without a problem. Concrete is a very economical solution, especially when compared to something like asphalt, brick or stone.

  • Is a slab as good as other types of foundations?

There are many pros to having a concrete slab poured vs other types of foundation but the primary one is cost. It is the most affordable type of foundation, is faster to construct and uses less material than crawl space and basements style foundations. They are also very durable, with the only downside being that water lines can be harder to access if installed beneath the building.

  • How long does it take for concrete to fully harden?

In most cases (though this can partly depend on the weather and thickness level) your concrete surface will be hard enough to walk on within 2 days, with some areas being safe for walking on in as little as 1 day. For driveways, you should allow a week before parking a vehicle on the surface. In most cases, the area will be completely cured within a month.

  • What type of maintenance is needed for a concrete surface?

Day to day maintenance generally only consists of occasional cleaning. For patios and driveways, sweep away debris regularly to keep it looking neat. For stains from vehicles, such as oil spots, you may need the help of a pressure washer. Occasionally, your surface will need to be resealed using a concrete sealer designed to keep it from cracking and staining as the years pass. This should not need to be done very often.
